Anyone else feel that life is still an emotional rollercoaster. Going through a pandemic and now worries post-covid about the future and the economic state of the world.

Here’s 8 ways to manage emotional overload, these have really helped me.

The 4:2:7 breathing exercise

If you’re feeling emotionally overwhelmed, try this simple breathing exercise which reduces your heart rate and slows your breathing so you feel calmer.

  1. Step 1 – Breathing, deeply and slowly, for a count of four.
  2. Step 2 – Hold your breath for a count of two.
  3. Step 3 – Exhale for a count of seven.
  4. Step 4 – Repeat 5 to 7 times

2. Emotional check

Recommend doing these three steps regularly to help you process your emotions.

Step 1 – Name what you’re feeling such as anger, sadness, fear, irritation.

Step 2 – Place your hand over your heart, breathing slowly and deeply into your heart centre. This activates receptors that help you feel calmer.

Step 3 – Ask yourself what you need right now. Maybe you need to take a break, go for a walk, talk to a friend.

3. Keep a journal
