After many attempts at starting the Couch to 5K, I finally finished it at the end of May 2020. Yes, that’s right – it was lockdown that finally got me completing it.

I carried on running 5K three times a week for 18 months. I had a few injuries in this time but nothing major. Then my priorities did get in a bit of a jumble and as I’ve mentioned before a family illness rocked my very core. This is still ongoing and of course my mental health has been rocked. Of course getting back to running would help me!

I started back this week and already with 3 runs down I feel better. Here are my tips for just getting started with Couch to 5K.

  1. Schedule your runs ahead of time. Mostly I like to run Monday, Wednesday and Friday. But sometimes it changes but I make sure I keep a day in between the runs.
  2. Buy running shoes. Any trainers will do to start out with but proper running trainers really helped me. You can pick up some on eBay or Vinted. They don’t have to be expensive.
  3. Drink water before your run. I thought this would make me need to go to the loo – haha! I did not want to be needing to go…
